Design Intent
The Wildstone Grove project reimagines a neglected suburban property into a functional, low-maintenance haven that celebrates sustainability and year-round beauty. Located adjacent to a wildlife corridor, the site presented unique challenges, including wildlife foraging, poor drainage, compacted clay soils, and overgrown or ineffective plantings.
The design tackled these issues holistically through a multi-phase approach. The hardscaping was completely overhauled, replacing problematic elements with natural moss rock walkways that connect all areas of the property safely and seamlessly. Repurposed river rock was transformed into visually striking passive water harvesting channels, improving drainage while reducing waste.
The revitalized garden spaces feature drought-tolerant, wildlife-resistant plantings with a focus on color, texture, and seasonal interest. Soil health was rebuilt using a proprietary biodynamic amendment blend, fostering robust plant growth and reducing water needs. A state-of-the-art hydrozoned irrigation system ensures efficient water delivery, while locally sourced materials and low-maintenance features align with sustainable practices.
From the welcoming front yard and driveway to the tranquil Sheep Fescue meadow surrounding a mature apricot tree, this design project showcases a perfect balance of aesthetic appeal and ecological responsibility.
The Wildstone Grove project exemplifies how Mark Brotton’s expertise in sustainable practices is transforming challenging sites into beautiful and functional outdoor spaces that thrive in harmony with their environment while meeting the needs of modern living.
